Trip 1 - Mid Escalante Cross Canyon & Spring Wildflower Hike

This is a cross canyon trip starting on the Escalante River itself and ending 20 miles later in a completely different canyon! You'll get to explore sections of 4 canyons as well as some of the slickrock rim country between them. On the rim you'll get to see interesting geologic features such as natural arches, moki marbles and concretion statuettes. You'll be deeply impressed by the deep red of the Navajo and Kayenta sandstone walls and the grand old cottonwoods along the River. Also you'll get to visit numerous interesting and artistic rock art panels, surface sites and granaries that the Anasazi left behind 700 to 1,000 years ago. Trip 3 - Willow Gulch/ Glen Canyon Trip

Trip begins far down the famous “Hole in the Rock Road” and takes us into the beautiful Willow Gulch, part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Our camp is in a large, protected alcove situated across from the spectacular Broken Bow Arch. Day hikes give us time to explore Willow Gulch and 25 mile canyon just upstream. This trip is fun for families since we camp near the creek and can spend time catching tadpoles and playing in the water. Our hike down Willow Gulch leads us to areas of Glen Canyon that were formally covered up by the now receding Lake Powell.

Trip 4 - Upper Escalante River / Death Hollow

This is an ideal trip for families offering plenty of time to explore, swim and spend quality time with the kids. While parents enjoy relaxing in our luxurious base camp, guides teach the young ones how to make Anasazi string, create their own rock art, and learn the plants and animals of the area.
Beginning at the headwaters of the Escalante River Canyon you'll hike 16 miles down river and pop out at a lower trailhead near Calf Creek. Two days of the trip is spent in lovely Death Hollow canyon that is famous for it's narrows, hanging gardens and numerous swimming holes. This section of the Escalante River has some of the highest density of rock art panels found anywhere in the area. In addition to the numerous archeological sites, you'll visit an impressive natural arch and the Escalante Natural Bridge.
This trip offers a cool respite from the heat of southern Utah's summer!

Trip 5 - Antone Ridge High Desert Hike

Outside Magazine says this is one of the 10 best hikes to do in America, and we'd have to agree with them on this one! In spite of all the press the Grand Staircase/Escalante National Monument has received in recent years, it's still one of the most remote regions in the Escalante area. A portion of our route follows the historic Boulder Mail Trail, the original route between the towns of Escalante and Boulder, used when the mail was still delivered via mules. We'll experience hidden canyons, arches, waterfalls and plunge pools, camp amongst the ponderosa pine and juniper forest, and visit beautiful aspen groves, all the while being surrounded by thousands of acres of contorted and rolling white slickrock. A great alternative to canyon exploring, this trip is unrivaled for it's remote high desert beauty!

  Trip Dates:
September 1-5, 8-12, 15-19

Cost: $950 / person

Grand Gulch Archeological Trip

This trip takes us into the main section of Grand Gulch on Cedar Mesa. Grand Gulch is a beautiful canyon with very impressive tall Cedar Mesa Sandstone walls, and a lovely creek that eventually joins the San Juan River. The Anasazi Indians found this canyon very hospitable to live in, as cliff dwellings have been built in the alcoves found on nearly every bend. This trip concentrates on the archeological sites and rock art panels in the upper section of the Gulch. Everyday we'll explore at least two large cliff dwellings as well as several smaller ones.

  Trip Dates: March 31-April 4, April 21-25, April 28-May 2, September 22-26, September 29-October 3
Cost: $975 / person
Skill level: Moderate

Trip 6 - Middle Escalante River / Fall Foliage Trip

The middle stretch of the Escalante River Canyon is a jewel! The entire famous Glen Canyon series of rock is visible here, from the Navajo sandstone formations towering on top, to the sinuous orange red of the Wingate sandstone layer on the bottom. Our base camp is in a protected and shady alcove up one of the side canyons to the Escalante River. Day hikes will take in gorgeous scenery in the canyon bottoms and the rimrock country on top. Slot canyons, dripping spring walls and Neon Canyon's famous Golden Cathedral are just a few of the impressive features that you'll experience on this trip. This trip has been called a photographers delight offering striking images of the contrast between red canyon walls and autumn's golden showing of Cottonwood foliage.

  Trip Dates: October 6-10, 13-17, 20-24
Cost: $950 / person
